Video and audio files contain metadata which gives information about the time and date the video or audio recording was created, the duration, and other data including technical data such as frame rate or bit rate. It is important that the video/audio file itself is preserved so that the full metadata can always be examined, but it is also useful if the metadata is "printed" to a file so that the date and time of the recording can be seen at a glance. This should be done in a way which makes it obvious how the file "print" was produced.
It is important that the file "print" should include the filename and duration because that enables it to be matched with the actual video/audio file - both, together with any snapshots, would be sent to e.g. the other side in litigation so that that the accuracy of the print can be confirmed and, thereafter, the filename and duration information ensures that there is no subsequent mismatch if more than one recording in involved in a case.
