Antell was called to the Bar in 1992. John Antell specialises in contractual
disputes, particularly those involving information technology, engineering or
construction. In addition to that speciality for which he travels throughout
England, he has a broad common law practice centred on the Western Circuit.
IT, Engineering and Construction Prior to coming to the Bar he worked as a
chartered engineer and he has a particular interest in disputes involving complex
technical issues ranging from the functions provided by IT software to the
throughput of manufacturing plant under various operating conditions as well
as in more conventional building disputes. Some of his work involves
specialised areas of employment and tax law which are of particular
importance in the IT, engineering and constructions industries such as the
Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations, TUPE,
PAYE and the Construction Industry Scheme. General Common Law He appears in
most civil matters which are litigated in the county courts including:
Personal Injury, Sale of Goods, Carriage of Goods, Landlord and Tenant,
Consumer Credit and Business Leasing, as well as Insolvency (both personal
and corporate), Ancillary Relief, the rights of cohabitees and other land
disputes such as claims for possession and boundary disputes.
