Using Your Phone as a Scanner


You can use the Google Drive app on an android phone or tablet to create a PDF copy of a paper document using the device's camera. The quality of the image won't be as good as if an actual scanner had been used - and you will probably at some point need to get the document scanned in again using a proper scanner - but for making a  PDF copy of a document in an emergency when you are away from base, it can be useful. See here for a tutorial. As explained in the tutorial, after photographing each page of a document, you tap the + button to photograph the next page of the document, and, when you have photographed the last page of a particular document, you tap the tick button.

If you have an iPhone or other non-android device, you can use the Adobe Acrobat Reader Mobile app to create a PDF copy of a paper document. See here for a video of how to scan in multi-page document as a PDF. Once you get the Your PDF has been saved in Acrobat message, press Share then Share File to save the send/save the PDFNote that in the video above it shows a document being thrown away after being photographed but generally you will want to keep the original document and not throw it away.
