Based in the South-West, John Antell represents clients in civil trials at county courts and tribunals throughout Southern England,  as well as at the High Court in London and Bristol. His practice concentrates on the following areas:


Contractual disputes

Consumer Law – disputes involving a contract between a business and an individual: e.g. sale of faulty goods, such as. boats, caravans and cars, Consumer Credit agreements, disputes regarding the provision of services, and insurance.

 
Commercial Law – disputes concerning trade between businesses – sale and carriage of goods by air, sea and land. Insurance and reinsurance. Provision of consultancy and other services. Also commercial landlord and tenant law.


Building and Construction – disputes regarding building work – anything from a conservatory to a large commercial development. Claims by or against builders. Also disputes with architects, surveyors and engineers.

  

Land Law and Property Law

 
Adverse possession – i.e. claims to be entitled to own land by reason of simple possession over a long period of time – this may be a large piece of land or may be a boundary dispute where a relatively small piece of land on a boundary is in issue.

 
“Easements” (claims to limited rights over other people people’s land, such as rights of way, right to light, drainage rights, etc.) Nuisance (claims that someone is creating an unreasonable amount of noise, pollution, vibration etc. which affects neighbouring land) and Restrictive Covenants (claims that a land-owner is prevented from carrying out developments because of an agreement with a neighbour).

 
Disputes over shares in property - proprietary estoppel, constructive trusts, Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act (TOLATA) applications.

  

Employment law

 
Employment Tribunal claims: unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, discrimination, victimisation etc. 

 
Restrictive covenants – a restrictive covenant (in the employment law context) is an agreement that an employee, upon leaving, will not work for a competitor for a period of time, within a certain geographical area, etc..

 
Agency Workers – disputes concerning agency workers such as the employment agencies regulations.
