Protection is provided against discrimination on the grounds of religion and of "any religious or philosophical belief".
Because the protection of "philosophical belief" is relatively new, there have not yet been sufficient cases decided in the higher courts to establish the precise meaning of the phrase "philosophical belief" but it is likely that it will be given a fairly generous interpretation. In one case it was held that a belief in man-made climate change and of the importance of taking measure to reduce the degree of such man made change, constituted a protected "philosophical belief".
